It's a great place to ski.
You have to ski "The Wall" to cross the border.. France/Switzerland.
The French were smart..
The Swiss turned their pretty Alpine villages into resorts, but the French climbed a bit further up their mountain and created "purpose built resorts" like Avoriaz.
Ski-ing is a passion -
I learned in France>>>
Eloise was " un véritable et durable coup de coeur ", a music play by itself, a music revolution to the teenage girl I was then, and an excellent motivation to improve my school English !

And yet, there was a lot of new words and even grammar ( no future tense after when )to learn, ... and I learnt it by myself, and never forgot them.

And so, " Eloise ", immediately followed by
" Love is Love ", and then, my first stay in England a few months later, were the start of my real interest in English and Britain.

But a schoolfriend brought the girls'
" Mademoiselle Age Tendre "( Miss Tender Age ), with pictures of Barry in, and the lyrics of the song, which was great, and
I wrote them down at break,( no photocopying at the time ) and with the help of a good dictionary at home, I was able to understand and translate it all.
You, English-speaking natives, may not realize how much I learnt this way, listening to it at the same time.
Nothing to see with our school ...
It was my personal 68 Music shock ! I'd never heard anything like it, so theatrical, so huge !
And I didn't take part to the youth movement, too young for that ...
I have a few amusing memories and anecdotes to write ...
I'd only been studying English at school for two years and three months ( and a very traditional English ), which wasn't enough, of course, ...
