shame it was brutalised by someone called aimee mann, her version almost ruined a good film called magnolia, it was used really badly. they sould of used the original version, its so much better!

This is a great original version of the song. Perhaps it's because I'm a baby boomer, but I will always prefer the Three Dog Night version. Certainly nothing wrong with the original though.

Harry was a Musical Genius who John Lennon said was the greatest songwriter he ever knew. Harry wrote ONE, covered by Three-Dog Night. For us Baby-Boomers, He also wrote the Intro to "The Courtship of Eddy's Father," as well as many other songs. He was the MOST prolific of song writers and they were ALL different, which is GENUIS, but record companies did not like this. They always wanted to play it safe, but he never wrote for record companies...only for himself...which is the way it should be.

I agree Harry was a true songwriting genius and EXTREMELY underated due to his refusal to "play the game". Good credentials when John Lennon calls you the best songwriter he ever knew. Check out "1941" and "Without You", both amazing classics by a bona fide genius.

How can you write and sing like this and then virtually be cast into oblivion? Well in my generation(born 83) almost nobody knows about Harry. But most people my age don't really LISTEN to music, they just hear it... I'll carry harry as one of my heroes as long as I live for sure...

Fascinated to hear this excellent original. Didn't know he wrote it, amazing talent! In Australia I only knew John Farnham's version which was a big hit here but alas can't find on youtube.
