This is sad.
It's really, really sad that many who follow this guy, think that they know anything about economics - or that they are 'educated' about economics; when they've only been in the game about 9 months. At most.
What's worse, is that he uses a real issue - such as the value of the dollar - to support his absolutely INSANE ideas.

It's a matter of degree... An economic downturn that lasts only a months is known as a "recession". One that lasts several years is called a "Depression"... One that lasts for centuries, like the one that happened after the Roman Empire fell to the Barbarians and lasted until the time of Florentine Dukes... that's what the history books call the "Dark Ages"... and that's what we got now. Ron Paul can't base a currency with gold. You can't increase gold with the growth of the economy. You're always dependent on a metal.
Fiat money per se is not the problem. It depends how the currency is designed.

You don't need to increase the amount of gold with an increase in the size of your economy, you only need to increase the VALUE of that gold, which would happen automatically anyway, if gold were the currency. We would see price deflation instead of constant inflation.
