Snooker Ronnie O'Sullivan 147 World Championship 28.04.08

Video Description:
Ronnie O'Sullivan finished his 888.com World Snooker Championship match against Mark Williams in glorious style by making a record ninth 147 maximum break.
The Crucible crowd erupted as O'Sullivan potted the final ball of his magical maximum, the seventh made at the Crucible and O'Sullivan's third - he is the only player to make more than one at Sheffield.
The Rocket has over-taken Stephen Hendry as snooker's maximum man, having surpassed the Scot's record of eight. Chigwell's 32-year-old O'Sullivan has now made three this season, following 147s in the Northern Ireland Trophy and one in the deciding frame of his Maplin UK Championship semi-final against Mark Selby.
This one came in the last frame of a 13-7 defeat of Williams and put him through to the quarter-finals to face Liang Wenbo or Joe Swail. The match looked in the balance going into the concluding session at 9-7, but world No 5 O'Sullivan produced an incredible display of break-building to win the four frames he needed within 44 minutes.
Runs of 71, 60 and 100 put him 12-7 ahead, then he split the reds early in the next frame, clearly setting about a maximum from the early stages. He was never out of position, playing a superb shot on the 13th black to dislodge one awkward red from the pink, then dished up easily.
Stephen Maguire and Neil Robertson stopped their match on the adjacent table in the closing stages of the break, then joined Williams in congratulating O'Sullivan, who will collect a £157,000 jackpot providing the 147 is not equalled.
It's the 62nd 147 in snooker history and sixth of the season - three for O'Sullivan plus one each for Jamie Burnett, Tom Ford and Stephen Maguire.
O'Sullivan was in majestic form throughout the match against Welshman Williams, also a two-times world champion, making four centuries and seven more breaks over 50.
The result means that Williams is out of the top 16 after 12 years among the elite, though he looks to be safely in the top 32 for next season.

I understand that 155 is the highest if only one color is made on a free ball, but what if more than one is made? Cheers...

Its hard to think about it but the highest break possible is 155, remember the first ball is valued as one then u need to go for the black from there. Its literally impossible to get more than 155, hope that answered ur question.
Okay let me re-word ... ( 1 month ago by thechessstick)
Okay let me re-word my question. Can a person on a free ball make more than one color ball? In other words say on my free ball I pot a blue, yellow and brown. Would that be 3 points or would that be a foul? If it is 3 points they I would have a break of 157, 2 more than 155 because of the additional 2 colors that I made on my free-ball shot. Cheers... If you did have a ... ( 1 month ago by siondacheese)
If you did have a free ball you can go for any ball It doesn't matter they all count as one, and if you pot that one you can go for a colour ( black, blue etc, the colour has its original value ), then you are forced to go for a red, so the maximum possible is 155. Im in training being a referee with Eirian Williams who is actually refing this game, I hate the rule, Im not used to it that much, would be better just to ask the player to "go again". Hope this helps!

Hello again. Thank you. But what happens if a person pots 2 colours on a free ball shot?
Then the 2 colours ... ( 1 month ago by siondacheese)
Then the 2 colours you have just potted would count as potting two reds (1+1). It makes no difference, that wouldn't raise the maximum either.
Hello yet again. ... ( 1 month ago by thechessstick)
Hello yet again. Okay now you see my point. Since the 2 colours count as 2 reds 1+1=2. Then my maximum break could now be 156 right?
Cheers... The Stick...

Actually mate thats very unlikely but It could happen yes, im sorry Im not responding with good explinations, Il have to contact Eirian Williams bout this.
You cant pot more ... ( 1 month ago by liverpool1fc)
You cant pot more than one colour on a free ball because you must nominate which colour you are going for. If you do pot another colour aswell then it is foul. Thats why the highest possible break is 155. Hope that helps
