Michael Martin Murphey - Carolina In The Pines (Letterman) (((Stereo)))

Uploaded by: RicBNH
Video Description:
Michael Martin Murphey performed 1 song live for air on David Letterman and one on a webcast afterward, on May 22 2007.The webcast tune is Carolina In The Pines Presented here. The live tune was Wildfire which I also have posted on YouTube.
Lyrics:
She came to me, said she knew me
Said she'd known me a long time
And she spoke of being in love
With every mountain she had climbed
And she talked of trails she'd walked up
Far above the timberline
From that night on I knew I'd write songs
With Carolina in the pines
There's a new moon on the fourteenth
First Quarter the 21st
And the full moon in the last week
Brings a fullness to this earth
There's no guesswork in the clockwork
On the worlds part or mine
There are nights I only feel right
With Carolina in the pines
When the frost shows on the windows
And the wood stove smokes and glows
As the fire grows we can warm our souls
Watching rainbows in the cove
And well talk of trails weve walked up
Far above the timberline
There are nights I only feel right
With Carolina in the pines.

I have loved Michael Martin Murphey since 1974 when John Denver had him on the Tonite show....This man is so very talented! I saw him in concert back in the 90's...loved him! I have had a major crush on him for 30 years! His voice is a warm tickle....God bless!!!

This is fantastic! I'm young and had never heard this song until Buncombe Turnpike put it on their "Ballad of Baldy John and Jake" album. It is a good version, with a little more emphasis on the vocals. Tony Trischka is amazing. Check out his "Double Banjo Bluegrass Spectacular" album, he released last year. It's like butter!
Can someone help me with the meaning of these lyrics, that sway from straightforward to cryptic? Is he falling in love with a woman who hikes? the mountains? what?

I've been watching or taping Letterman since 1982, and this is probably my favorite musical performance. Every amazing artist gets to stretch out on one of the best country-rock songs ever written. Oh Canada, thank you for sending the great Paul Shafer our way as well.

Takes me back to the time when we sat on my Granddaddy's porch in Murphy, N.C. and played banjos, guitars and sang nearly all night long..not a lot of lights back then to block out the stars nor the mountain ridge....

One of my favorite MMM songs. Played it until I made my husband sick of it. Got to see Tony Trischka and Skyline at UMSL way back in the early 80s. They are sure putting Paul through a workout, aren't they? Thanks for posting this video!!

The Midnight Trucking Show on WBAP 820 AM out of Ft Worth Texas used to end with the last 15 or so seconds of the piano solo from this song. I can't count the number of days I rolled out of bed at 6am to that. Still makes me smile every time I hear it. A great way to start the day.

The amazing thing is that he can still wear that hat and buckskin jacket after all these years and not look like an idiot.
That is an accomplishment.
