Reverse sneezes ... ( 8 months ago by AHTstudent)
Reverse sneezes cannot be fatal, and if this were to be collasping trachea, it would be a very low grade, which would cause nothing more thna an inconvenience.

Wow, I hope you're not a vet if you say it would cause nothing more than an inconvenience because my dog almost died because of a misdiagnosed trachea. She had to have surgery which did save her life. I won't get into the gory details, there was a lot involved but believe me it was considerably more than an "inconvenience!"

I don't know what grade your dog was, but this dog does not have anything serious.

Gently massaging ... ( 5 months ago by sweetbellajade)
Gently massaging the throat area or pinching the dog's nostrils shut so she must breath through her mouth can help shorten the episode. Sometimes taking the dog outside in the fresh air stops the spasm. Once the attack ceases, all goes back to normal.
(Another technique sometimes used to stop a bout of canine reverse sneezing trying to get the dog to swallow, touching the back of the tongue if that is safe.)

It is thought that the pharyngeal spasm can be caused by a number of irritants, including dust and pollen, or household chemicals. Moreover, some dogs can launch an episode after eating, drinking or running around, or while pulling on the leash.

if you're really worried about choking, you can ask your vet to teach you the dog variety of cpr, or chest thrusts/slaps. it's pretty gentle, and it can help your dog if she aspirates food or drool or something. i've had to do it to my dog before, and it helped him out.

My dog has been doing this for years. One vet said she couldn't tell me what it was unless she saw it herself...the other said it didn't sound familiar. Another said that she has asthma...she sounds just like your precious doggy. I'm so glad to know she isn't alone...or dying! Thank you for sharing this video. God bless.

My dog is part Maltese and does this also...mostly after drinking. It's due to collapsed trachea; it's apparently not dangerous and all you have to do is massage their throat if you want them to stop. Otherwise they'll stop on their own!
