I think they mean that the song took place entirely during the DAY, not the night, and at the very END of the song was when night started. It's just becoming night at the end, it was day the whole song.

This is one of my favorite pieces that I have played in orchestra. The only one that I think has topped this is Dvorak's New World Symphony, which was absolutely stellar. But this one...I love this work. A lot.
