Regarding this controversy over the term "boys": Yes, it was (and often still is) a term used to marginalize blacks. However, the host probably used it more out of habit than out of an open sense of derision. I have family members who will still casually use the term "colored". They don't mean to be offensive. They're just ignorant to the fact that "colored" is no longer acceptable terminology for black people.
